Turn it off or remove it
Stop AutoMode for one session or everywhere, route effort only, disable every Claude Code mod, or uninstall AutoMode and delete its data.
Stop routing
| Scope | How |
|---|---|
| One session | /automode off. Start it again with /automode on. Nothing is written to your settings. |
| Every session | Set "mode": "off" in your config.json, or set AUTOMODE_ROUTER=off. |
| Model only | Run /plugin configure automode@automode and set Route models to off. AutoMode then routes effort only and keeps the model you picked. |
| The bar only | AUTOMODE_UI=off hides the bar. Routing goes on. |
| The guardian only | AUTOMODE_GUARDIAN=off. The rest of AutoMode is unaffected. |
Disable the mod
- AutoMode only: run
/pluginand disable it in the Installed tab. - Every mod, one session: start Claude Code with
--safe-mode. - Every mod, every session: set
"disableAllHooks": truein~/.claude/settings.json.
Uninstall
claude plugin uninstall automode@automodeState lives in ~/.claude/plugins/data/automode/. Delete that folder to remove it. See Privacy for what it holds.

How a route is decided
How AutoMode picks a model and effort for each Claude Code prompt: two Haiku judges, quality floors for risky work, and a cache check before any switch.
